Answers.

  1. What is the price for (specific type of shoot)? What is included in your pricing?

    Please check the pricing page.

If your type of shoot is not listed, please contact me with your details.

  2. When do I pay?

You can pay either at the time of the shoot, or when you proofs are delivered within three weeks of your session. If paying when proofs are delivered, note that any shipping or COD charges are the responsibility of the client.

  3. How long does it take after the shoot to get my proofs back?

Generally, proofs are ready three weeks after the date of your shoot. Proofs are delivered via courier for locations within the City of St. John’s, or via Canada Post for other locations.

  4. How do I order enlargements from my shoot? How long do I have to decide?

On your invoice, you will notice an Event Code and a Coupon Code.

The Event Code can be used online at http://kimgoodyear.lifepics.com/ to order enlargements. Your Event Code is unique to your shoot and will allow you to access all photos from your session.

You will also notice a Coupon Code - this is used to receive your pre-paid package enlargements. This is a single use code that you enter during the final stage of the ordering process. Please note that you are responsible for shipping charges from the lab to your home.

You have six months after the date of your shoot to order enlargements. Both your Event Code and Coupon Code expire after six months.

  5. Can I buy additional enlargements? Can my family and friends?

    Yes and Yes.

You can order additional pictures when redeeming your Coupon Code - you simply receive a discount based on the dollar value of photos that were included in your package. The difference, along with a shipping charge, is payable by credit card.

Note that Coupon Codes can be used one time only and the entire value must be used on one order. If you choose to use your Coupon Code on an order with a total value less than the pre-paid amount, you’ll forfeit the difference.

Family can also order pictures - just tell them your Event Code and send them to http://kimgoodyear.lifepics.com/. Your Coupon Code should not be shared.

We accept payment for online prints via VISA or Mastercard. All transactions are are secured via industry standard SSL encryption.

  6. When ordering a photo that is not the same aspect ratio as a 4×6, how can I be sure of the crop I’ll receive? With an 8×10 or 11×14, for example.

All of the photos available for order are 4×6 ratio, so you have to be careful when ordering and checking out. Be sure to use “Crop Option #3″ when prompted during checkout - you’ll get exactly the crop you specify with this option.

There’s more info on this topic over on our wedding site in an article entitled Photo Ratios and LifePics Ordering. Please check that out before ordering if the whole idea of aspect ratios is something with which you are not familiar.

  7. After enlargement prints are ordered online, how long does it take / how do I get them?

After placing your order it is generally processed within five business days. All photos are packaged carefully and sent via Canada Post Expedited service.

For destinations within Canada, delivery time is generally two to three weeks (from the time that your order is placed until they arrive at your door).

All re-print / enlargement orders are printed and shipped from a lab in Ontario - sorry, local pickup or drop off within St. John’s is not an option.

  8. Can I make prints and enlargements from the disc that comes with my session?

Yes. Prints can be made from your disc at any establishment that offers photofinishing, like labs at Walmart, Costco, etc.. You’ll get a “Limited Licence / Usage Rights” form that specifically grants permission to make copies of the images. It’s a good idea to take a copy of this form when picking up your prints at the lab.

Note that some older photo kiosks may not read our disc, so you may have to bring your files in on a USB device or picture card.

  9. Why do I really need to sign a “Model Release” form? Why?

Yes, a model release form has to be signed for all sessions - TFP / CD, Grads, Modeling Shoots, everything. Even wedding clients sign a release (it’s part of the contract).

Model Release forms are standard in the industry. They specifically grant the copyright holder (the photographer) permission to use the images. “Use” could mean a variety of things, but in this case it basically means that I can use them as examples of my work, mainly online in my web site(s) and blog.

More info on the term Model Release is available at Wikipedia.

  10. Do you offer courses / work terms for students.

Sorry, I do not currently offer courses or work terms.

I do often invite other photographers along on shoots though - send along a sample of your work if you’d like to be considered.

  11. Can you do an On Location shoot, or come to my location? Do you travel outside the city of St. John’s.

Yes, I have fully portable equipment and can work with you to do a shoot in whatever location works best. I am accompanied by at least one person on all shoots, usually two, to assist with equipment setup / tear down and posing. We regularly travel outside St. John’s, but there is an additional fee based on distance.

  12. How long have you been a photographer / what is your background?

I’ve been working professionally as a photographer since 1999.

I started working in scenics, then gravitated toward shooting people just before joining a local portrait studio. This was a fast-food-type chain operation, but we quickly became known for excellent work - mainly because we hired talented people. In a fast paced environment such as this, skills can develop very quickly, especially for a person that has a desire to learn. Simply put, you either sink or swim. I’m proud to say that exposure to that environment allowed me to work behind the camera longer than most photographers twice my age. All of my skills are either learned from peers or self-taught.

  13. Do you help the people that you photograph find work as models? Are you associated with a modeling agency?

No, we do not help models find work and we are not a modeling agency, or associated with a modeling agency. We provide photographer services - we do photo shoots for models so they can assemble or expand upon their portfolio. We will also help a potential model develop a concept for their shoot. However, we do not try to find jobs for models.

In certain situations we offer TFP / TFCD shoots for models. These shoots are decided on a case-by-case basis and are most often arranged when we want to try a specific idea or shoot a certain style. Therefore, the concept is developed first and a suitable model is selected after. Please contact us with a headshot if you’d like to be considered for our next available TFP / TFCD shoot.

We encourage anyone interested in modeling to do some research before getting involved. A good place to start is with the Modeling Advice - Frequently Asked Questions list by Joe Edleman. In particular, the page entitled Ways to Discover a Modeling Scam has some good information for those just getting involved with modeling.

There are also several resources for models and sites for promoting yourself as a model available on our links page. Although those in the industry frequently question the usefulness of such sites, membership and portfolios on many of them are free, and it remains to be seen how the Internet will have an effect on the industry.
